Indulge your senses and your skin for a luxury spa experience at home
Unfortunately, jet-setting halfway across the world to a private tropical resort to get massaged and pampered daily by a local cabana boy is only reserved for the Kim Kardashians and Beyoncés of the world (us, jealous?) Mercifully, for us mere mortals, a bit of quality ‘me-time’ doesn’t have to be this expensive. If you’re lacking the funds (and time!) to escape to the Maldives every other weekend, everything you need to create your very own spa experience at home can be found at The Body Shop®.
Inspired by nature, our latest Spa of the World™ range will leave you feeling good and relaxed. Follow our rituals below to ensure you experience an indulgent and premium at-home skincare offering – your body will thank you for it.
Relaxation techniques to connect mind-body
As we all know, wellbeing begins in the mind. It can be difficult to escape from day-to-day stress if tomorrow’s work meeting or financial demands are playing on repeat in your head. A DIY day spa requires your complete attention, so you need to move the focus onto you.
There are a few ways to achieve this, and they don’t cost a cent:
Meditate: Lie down or sit still in a quiet place in your home and gently close your eyes. If you find your thoughts are racing, calm them down by focusing on breathing deeply. This will allow your mind to go still (just leave the ‘ohm’ sounds to your yoga class.)
- Get active: A brisk walk around your street for a minimum of 10 minutes can release endorphins (the feel-good chemical responsible for our feelings of pleasure). A casual stroll can help to clear your mind and leave you feeling relaxed.
- Listen to music: Playing your favourite track provides an instant mood boost. However, the idea is to quiet down - not get pumped up. Save your AC/DC before a big night out, and put on some chill out songs to help create a peaceful ambience.
Try these relaxation techniques for the mind before you get started on relaxing and pampering your body. When your head is clear and at peace, the rest of your body will soon follow suit.
Escapism starts at home with these four Spa of the World™ products
Before you take a bath, you need to remove all the impurities and toxins from your body. A clay body mask is one of the best treatments you can give yourself. Our Spa of the World™ Himalayan Charcoal Body Clay can easily be spread on your body with our Body Mask Brush. Focus extra carefully on areas such as your forearms, elbows, and neck. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and shower off with warm water. Now your skin is ready for a bathing experience!
A bath is the epitome of spa indulgence. Under hot running water, pour five scoops of the Spa of the World™ Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath into your bathtub and swirl until dissolved. This relaxing powder-to-milk bath soak will soften and moisturise the skin, while helping to relax your whole body.
After your bath, massage our new Spa of the World™ Polynesian Monoi Radiance Oil straight away all over your skin to seal in moisture. This multi-purpose oil can also be used on your tresses for an extra-special overnight hair treatment. Lightly blow-dry your hair after washing it, take a few drops of oil and massage onto your scalp. Comb through and leave on overnight – your hair will be feeling silky soft in the morning.
One of the best ways to end your pampering session is to spoil yourself with a DIY foot massage. Not surprisingly, we often neglect our feet because we are busy treating the rest of our body. Using Spa of the World™ Tahitian Orchid Massage Oil, apply (with warm hands) firming pressure strokes along the soles of the feet. The vanilla orchid scent from Tahiti will entice your body and mind. A foot massage will improve circulation, reduce the effects of depression and anxiety, and lower blood pressure – it’s one of the best gifts you can give yourself!
Following these techniques, your body will be tingling all over with contentment and feeling a lot calmer. The best thing about these pampering sessions is that they can be done in the comfort of your own home, at any time of the day. Just ensure you have no interruptions by turning off all electronic devices and finding a suitable time to immerse yourself in a full spa experience at home.
