Frequently Asked Questions

Do The Body Shop products contain palm oil?

The Body Shop International is committed to the principles of the Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Today 100% of The Body Shop purchases are made according to the RSPO standard. If we include palm oil in our products we purchase only RSPO certified palm oil. In the case of palm oil derivatives we are also certified as sustainable by the RSPO, in some cases using the “book and claim” model as an interim solution until a critical mass of certified segregated materials becomes accessible on the market.

Do The Body Shop products contain microbeads?

We recognise that some products can affect the environment long after we wash them down the plug hole. That’s why we made a pledge to replace microbeads in all of our products with natural exfoliators. As of 2015, all of the materials in The Body Shop scrubs that replace the polyethylene microbeads are either natural or naturally derived and biodegradable.

What is The Commitment?

The Body Shop has always believed that business can and should be a force for good. For nearly 40 years we’ve been delivering on that belief. In that time, the world has changed a great deal and now it’s time for us to change too. We asked ourselves how we could continue to make a real, positive difference in the world over the next 40 years. The answer is our Commitment. Enrich Not Exploit™. It’s in our hands.

The Body Shop’s Commitment will help us deliver the greatest impact as a sustainable business, making a positive difference in people’s lives, now and in the future. As a business we seek to protect and nurture the environment and society in every part of our business: ingredients, products, packaging, stores, communities and campaigns. “It’s in our hands” means we acknowledge that we have the power to make positive changes in the world and make a positive difference in people’s lives.
