“I want to work for a company that contributes to and is part of the community. I want something not just to invest in. I want something to believe in.” - Dame Anita Roddick
Each year on her birthday, 23 October, we celebrate the life of our founder – Anita Roddick. The Body Shop’s all over the world volunteer during Anita week to make a positive difference.
This year, The Body Shop Australia Retail Support Staff volunteered with The Birthing Kit Foundation, assembling kits to be sent to women in developing countries, providing a clean and safe birthing environment to reduce the incidence of infant and maternal morbidity and mortality. An estimated 385,000 women die annually in childbirth, many from preventable infections.
Every 2 minutes, a woman dies of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.
We feel proud to know that the 600 kits we assembled will be sent to women in developing countries providing them with a more hygienic birthing environment, reducing the likelihood of mortality for mum, bub or both.
In addition, our 88 stores have volunteered from two to ten hours within their local communities, to celebrate the life and legacy of our founder Anita Roddick.
