Over 12 days in December and as part of our 30th Birthday celebrations, The Body Shop Australia invited customers to visit our “Giving Tree” at the Galeries Victoria in Sydney, where they could nominate an organisation or cause that they felt passionate about. The Body Shop then pledged to donate $1000 to the organisation or cause that received the most nominations, each day over the 12 day period.
You voted and we have listened.
We received over 1100 votes with nominations highlighting some of the key issues that are facing our society today. Issues that people felt strongly about ranged far and wide and included:
- alcoholism in indigenous communities
- child abuse
- human trafficking
- violence and discrimination against women
- child soldiers
- mental health
- teenage body image,
- youth depression and suicide
- climate change
- animal welfare / cruelty to animals
Some issues or organisations were most nominated on more than one day and as such we have consolidated donations and awarded them to individual organisations that work in those areas.
We are thrilled to announce that the organisations that will be receiving donations are:
